Well, this blog experiment petered out rather quickly. I haven't written in more than a year. It's really hard to come up with blog post ideas and write consistently. I wonder what the statistics are on blog survival rates. I'm sure many start out with good intentions (like me), and quickly flame out (also like me). Good thing I'm not depending on this blog to make a living!

After my last post in Jan 2022, I was still recovering from burning out, but thinking about my next steps. I knew I'd have to go back to work in some way, shape or form, whether it be freelancing, contract work or full-time employment.

I've done some freelancing, but I'm not good at keeping the pipeline filled with work. I'd starve to death if I had to rely on freelancing. I've never tried contracting before, always having had full time jobs, but wanted to give it a try. There are usually no benefits or vacation time as a contractor, but I liked the flexibility of taking time off between contracts and decided to start looking for software contract work.

Actually, I thought about starting to look for software contract work. I kept thinking and thinking (real hard!) about looking for work. It took another 4 months of thinking until I finally submitted resumes and found some recruiters I could work with. Until then, I was still enjoying the last moments of my career break.

But finally, around May 2022, 10 months after I quit my job and 8 years since my last job hunt, I started submitting my resume and fielding calls from recruiters.
